COVID-19 and Social Distancing Order
Updated: Jul 27
I've received a lot of questions lately about where we are at with COVID-19 measures in Meridian.
I would direct you to our City you-tube video where the Mayor, Police Chief, and business leaders discuss the Social Distancing Order. Note - if you are a business owner, you must comply with the order or close for business. As individuals, families, and business leaders, we ask everyone to take personal responsibility for the health and safety of the wider community:
I think the most important aspect of press conference was the discussion about the important responsibility that each one of us has to carefully consider the places that are appropriate and essential for us to attend right now. This order may be the first in a series of steps that we will have to take, depending on the recommendations coming from the CDC.
My extended family includes healthcare workers who are likely to be on the front lines fighting COVID-19 as well as a couple of severely immuno-compromised individuals. Just like you are, I am following the news, and we are trying our best to adjust to the "new normal" of staying at home, and we are avoiding shopping, going out, or seeing friends and family. I'll be joining all of the future City Council meetings via telephone or video unless my presence is required in person on an emergency basis.
Our kids have been having a hard time not being in school and seeing their friends, but we are doing everything we can to keep them on their routine, engaged in some learning while we telecommute, and to do our part for the community to stay at home. I know that COVID-19 will likely result in a tremendous disruption to peoples' lives, livelihoods, and routines, but I ask you to join me in doing your part to flatten the curve.
